Former Chief Secretary of Mizoram, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo was sworn in as the new Chief Information Commissioner of Mizoram today at the Conference Hall of Mizoram Legislative Assembly. The oath taking ceremony was administered by Chief Minister Zoramthanga. 

The notification appointing Lalnunmawia as the new Chief Information Commissioner was issued by the General Administration department on October 20, 2021. 

The new Chief Information Commissioner left the Chief Secretary office on October 30, 2021 with an involuntary pension. Lalnunmawia Chuaungo joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1987 under Gujarat cadre. In 2019, he was appointed as Chief Secretary, Mizoram on inter-cadre deputation and served in the post till his voluntary retirement last week.

Lalnunmawia had featured prominently in the news before the state assembly polls in 2018 when he was wrongly removed by the Election Commission following a complaint filed by the then state Chief Electoral Officer SB Shashank.
