The Indian women's hockey team grabbed their maiden win at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in a match against Ireland. This proves to be a crucial win as it keeps the quarterfinals dream alive. The hockey team is set to play against the Republic of south Africa in their last match of Pool A. The team's win was sealed by a late score in the fourth quarter from Navneet Kaur. This greatly  improved India's chance of making it to the quarterfinals of the women's hockey after suferring three consecutive defeats in the group stage matches.

Like many other players in the team, the olympic journey has been an emotional one for Mizoram's star hockey player Lalremsiami who lost her father during the FIH series Final in Hiroshima in 2019. Lalremsiami stayed on with the team during her father's demise and helped the team win the tournament to qualify for the 2020 Olympic games. Participating in the Tokyo Olympics is definitely a dream come true for Siami though she had already been with the team in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018 when the Indiam team bagged a silver medal in the Hockey 5s format.

Lalremsiami has risen to the status of a celebrated icon in Mizoram and the state government and the people of Mizoram have shown incredible support to the young star. The Sports & Youth Services Department has given Rs. 25 lakhs to the Mizo olympian as a token of gratitude. During the training period, Mizoram State Sports Council also gave Rs. 50,000 to Siami to aid her in the training sessions.
