Following the announcement of the Mizoram General Assembly Elections 2023 results, former Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga handed in his resignation to Shri Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Mizoram.

In his statement to the media, the former Chief Minister claimed anti-incumbent sentiments roused by his administration's performance during the Covid-19 pandemic as the biggest reason for their defeat; that the pandemic sent the State into a huge economic crisis that the opposition took advantage of, making claims to the public that the administration was incompetent in its handling of the situation.

In response to questions about how the defeat would impact the party, Pu Zoramthanga reassures the people that this is not the first time the MNF has suffered huge losses, and that they always come back stronger and this defeat will not be a hindrance to the party's future.
