The Central Government wrote to five states- Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Maharashtra and Mizoram regarding increasing Covid-19 positivity rate in these states.
Union Health Ministry on Tuesday have sent a written request to the five states and asked them to "take pre-emptive steps" and maintain a "strict watch" to curb the spread of the virus. The five states have been asked to monitor public movement, intensity genome sequencing and to lay out strict administration regarding Covid.
These states and UTs have been recorded as contributing the most to the country's caseload and positivity rate, Union Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan, said, "The Centre advised all these states and UTs to follow a risk assessment based approach on the opening of economic and social activities without losing the gains made so far in the fight against the pandemic."
In the letter Bhushan mentioned that Mizoram's positivity rate rose from 16.11 percent to 16.68 percent in the week ending 19 April.
Recently, Mizoram has been dropping off several restrictions imposed on public and social life where churches, educational institutions and other economic activities have slowly resumed the pre - Covid routines.
