Power & Electricity minister R Lalzirliana holds a joint meeting with different NGOs to discuss problems and issues related to electricity in the state. The minister stated that the state government has introduced a subsidized rate in the past year to lighten the burden of the public during the pandemic. The meeting also decided that the due date for clearing electricity bill be extended till 31 August, 2021 to ensure fair electricity bill payment.

The minister further stated that necessary measures will be taken immediately to solve the different problems regarding bill payment. Complaints have been constantly raised by the public on newspapers, social media and other public platforms for the past few months regarding the fluctuating electricity bill. Some consumers complained that there have been months where they had to pay double the amount of the usual monthly charge even without an increase in usage.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Mizoram Consumers' Union, MIMA, CYMA, MJA, MUP and MHIP. Public grievances regarding bill payment and other issues were raised and discussed in the meeting.

Within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, 81.42 % of the consumers cleared their bills during Feb- May while only 52.01% of the consumers paid their bill in June- July.
