It's a good day for Indian weightlifting team at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 with Mizo weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga winning  a gold medal for India with a combine lift of 300kgs.

The young weightlifter won India’s second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with a record total lift of 300kgs, making it India’s fifth medal from the weightlifting arena with Mirabai Chanu (gold), Sanket Sargar (silver), Bidyarani Devi (silver) and Gururaj Poojary (bronze) earning podium finishes on Saturday.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga comes from a sporting family as his father was a boxer at the national level and was a junior national champion.  The 19 year old weightlifter is the reigning Youth Olympic champion and lifted a successful 140kg attempt and then lifted 160kg in clean and jerk to take his aggregate to 300kg, which is a new Games record in the men's 67kg competition. A massive 7kg difference from his nearest rival Samoa's Vaipava is enough evidence of Jeremy's remarkable strength. He hit the headlines in 2018 by winning a historic gold at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aries.
