Champhai Kanan VC team emerged as the victorious team in yesterday’s All Mizoram Inter-Village Football Tournament final match, taking home the winning trophy and a cash prize of Rs.1,50,000. 

Claimed to be the biggest sports tournament in Mizoram, tens of thousands gathered at Lammual to witness the spectacle of the final match between Champhai Kanan VC and Sialhawk VC team. Headed by captain Lalchhawnkima, the champion team displayed spectacular performance on field and played a win worthy game, one that did not disappoint hundreds of fans who came all the way from Champhai to support their team. The champion team won with a clear 2-0 score against Sialhawk VC. The championship journey was not an easy one as the team had to face Melbuk, Vaivakawn and Republic Veng VC teams. “Champhai Kanan truly deserves the win. The team displayed a spectacular attacking football from day one till the final match,” reported inkhel.com the biggest sports media platform in the state.

The two winning goals in the final match were scored by the Top Scorer of the tournament Tharpuia who scored a total of 13 goals in the tournament. Champhai Kanan star player Lalramsanga bagged the Best Player title and Lengpui VC goalkeeper R. Lalhmangaihzuala was awarded the Best Goalkeeper title. Sialhawk VC team showed an outstanding sportsmanship during and after the match as they showed their respect for the champion team by giving them a guard of honour after the match. One can say for a fact that the fans were the definitely the 12th man in the team as Sialhawk VC fans were the loudest, the boldest and the most supportive in this tournament.

The 2022 All Mizoram Inter- Village Tournament was kicked off on June 24 and more than 200 teams competed for the championship trophy, making it the biggest sports tournament in Mizoram. From the enthusiasm displayed by fans and the dedication of the players to the tournament, it is undeniable that football will always be at the heart of the Mizo community.
