Mary Zothansangi, wife of Late Dr. Laltanpuia, has been sentenced to a lifetime imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1 lakh by the Aizawl District Court on account of the murder of her husband. The court judgement was passed today.
Dr.Laltanpuia (43yrs), a resident of Kulikawn Veng and a medical doctor at Aizawl Hospital, was found severely wounded in his residence on the night of 9, December 2020. Knife stab wounds were found in his body and he later died from his injuries in the hospital on the same night. His wife, Mary Zothansangi, was reported to have been smoking in the bathroom of their house right after the incident which raised suspicions about her involvement in her husband's death.
Mary was immediately taken into custody at Kulikawn Police Station. Investigations followed and on December 6, 2021 the Aizawl District Court declared his wife as guilty of murdering her husband.
Today the court declared the final judgement for Mary Zothansangi with a lifetime imprisonment and Rs. 1 lakh fine. Furthermore, she has been sentenced with a 5 month imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 4,000 under the MLP Act.
