Plans for the construction of the Bairabi- Sairang railway line in Mizoram is in motion. According to reports, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will construct the 51.38 km-long railway line with a budget of of Rs 6527 crore. The NFR will start with the construction work from March 2024. Anshul Gupta, General Manager of NFR discussed this railway project with Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga in their recent meeting.

The project is planned to have 87 minor and 55 major bridges, along with 11 road over bridges/road under bridges. Currently Mizoram is linked to other parts of the country via road and air transport. The upcoming Bairabi-Sairang railway project is believed to bring about significant economic development for the state especially in terms of export and import goods.
