Day 2 of the 9th Session of the 8th Mizoram Legislative Assembly Budget session started today where the Opposition members walked out of the House in anger after their request to the Deputy Speaker was denied.
In today's session, the opposition members demanded that the Speaker, Lalrinliana Sailo be removed from his chair on account of the current allegations regarding his involvement in the road construction contract at Ngaizawl. Their request was subsequently denied by the Dy. Speaker.
Lalrinliana Sailo has been accused of claiming Rs. 100 lakh for his personal benefit from the money sanctioned for the road construction at Ngaizawl. "By the grace of God, I have never taken a single rupee from anyone", says the Assembly Speaker after members of the Opposition walked out of the House.
The Budget session of the Mizoram Assembly began yesterday under strict COVID protocols and will end on 10 March, 2022. CM Zoramthanga will present the state's annual budget for 2022-2023 and supplementary demands for grant for the year 2021-2022 on Thursday.
